Dr. Stan Morrison was a 1966 graduate of Odin High School. He graduated as Salutatorian of his class. During his high school career, he lettered all 4 years in varsity basketball and baseball. Stan became the first player in Odin’s history to score over 1000 points in a basketball career. He finished with 1096 points. His Senior year, he was selected to the first Team All-Conference. After high school, he placed academics as his number one priority, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mammalian Physiology from SIU Carbondale in 1970. He was accepted into Dental School at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in Chicago, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1974. During his Senior year of dental school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Dental Corp for 2 years at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. Dr. Morrison returned to this area and established his dental practice in Salem. Here he served a term as president of the Wabash River Dental Society. He was a charter member and past president of the Marion County Board of Health, where he served for 25 years. Twice he was selected as “Boss of the Year” by the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce (1990 & 2014). Dr. Morrison was awarded Life Membership in the American Dental Association, retiring after 42 years of practice. He has been a member of the Salem Community of Christ for 41 years, and has served as the pastor for 26 of those years. He is still serving in that position. Dr. Morrison credits his success to the support he received from his wife of 53 years, Dianna (a 1967 graduate of Odin High School), his 2 sons, Derek and Blake, his Salem Community, and that small village he grew-up in, Odin, Illinois. The place where he learned so many of life’s lessons. It is with great pleasure, that we welcome Dr. Stan Morrison into the Odin Public School District Hall of Fame.

From his arrival at Odin School in 1975 until his graduation in 1983, Robin Brooks was proud to be a part of Eagles history. His story at Odin included being Salutatorian of both his Jr. High Class of 1979 and his High School class of 1983. Along with his academic accomplishments he enjoyed successes on the basketball courts as well. Over his career he had multiple 40-point games, various tourney Most Valuable Player Awards along with his all-state honorable mention selection in 1983. Standing 6’6” tall he took pride in being the point on the full court press his Junior year and being able to bring the ball up the court versus a press his Senior year. Although most of his Varsity Basketball experience was during his Junior and Senior years, he was on the varsity roster for his entire high school career. The varsity teams reached a win total of 76 games during these four years. He spent 13 of his 33 years in education as a teacher, coach and principal at Odin Schools. The remaining 20 years were spent as Superintendent of Selmaville School in Salem. He along with his wife Stephanie are very proud of their children. Daughter Jansen with husband Blake and grandson Brooks, and Connor and girlfriend Sydney. Had Robin Brooks not moved to Odin when he did, the entire landscape and power structure of the Midland Trail Conference would have been much different in the early eighties at OHS. For one thing, North Clay would have been even more of a powerhouse than they already were had he went to school there. The exciting and team-oriented 1981-82 Eagle team that won 19 games, would have still had a great season, but it would have proved difficult to win both the conference and conference tournament titles without him. His junior season was his breakout season for the Eagles. The 82-83 (his senior year) squad would not have managed 18 victories without him there. A more methodical and ball-control type of team, the Eagles relied heavily on his scoring and rebounding totals heavily. If they took a 6- or 8-point lead at any point in the game, they were tough to come back on. Often, teams would devise a defense to focus and curtail his production. What many of them found out the hard way, is that his versatility made him tough to stop. Although standing 6-6, he was not the typical big man that just posted-up and stayed under the basket. Robin could dribble and handle the ball with the precision and skill of the best guards in the conference. A deft shooter from mid-range and in, he would always make half the shots he would take on a nightly basis. A versatile performer with many dimensions to his game. Known for his hard but fair play to his teammates and opponents. Always under control and focused on the floor and in practice. A fine example off the court and in the classroom for the underclassmen to observe. It is an honor to welcome and to induct Robin Brooks, into the Odin Public School District Hall of Fame. Moved to Odin 1975 in 5th Grade -Graduated from Odin Grade School in 1979 - Graduated from Odin High School in 1983 - Salutatorian of both his Jr. High and High school classes - Averaged over 30 pts game in Jr. High - 1979-1983 Varsity Basketball teams won 76 games - All Conference 1982 & 1983 - Conference tourney MVP 1982 - Conference All-Tourney Team 1983 - Christopher Thanksgiving Tourney MVP 1982 - Easter Seals All-Star Team Selection 1983 - Decatur Herald All South Team 1983 - All-State Honorable Mention 1983 - Attended Kaskaskia College and received his Associate’s Degree in 1985 - Attended Greenville College and received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1987 - Played basketball for the Greenville Panthers - Earned a Business Education Degree from Eastern Illinois in 1989 - Began teaching business courses at Odin High School in January of 1990 - Earned a Master’s Degree in Education Administration in 1997 from EIU - Earned a Specialists Degree in 1999 from EIU - Taught and was Principal at Odin Public Schools for a combined 13 years - Administrator at Selmaville School for 20 years - Will retire from education the summer of 2022 - Selected as one of the 21 Superintendents out of 879 in the State of Illinois to receive the Superintendents of Distinction award in 2022 from the Illinois Association of School Administrators.

Jeff Burton has donned many hats as an Odin Eagle. Highly regarded as one of (if not the) top three sport athletes the school has ever produced. Also, a long history of coaching several different sports at many different levels. In his senior season of 1989, he was voted the MVP of the Midland Trail Conference in both baseball and basketball. He also was the first Odin Eagle (at that time) to qualify for an IHSA State event, when he did so in cross country. In baseball, if he got on base he usually stole both second and third base. He finished his career with 170 steals. That total still ranks fifth in the IHSA record books. Blessed with a high baseball IQ, Jeff was ready for high school baseball when he first got to high school. Becoming a key component for the team in both the field and at the plate, during a great stretch of success for the Eagles. The Eagles dominated in baseball during his four year career, compiling a team record of 142-32-1. His total of 73 stolen bases in 1988, is still the all-time leader (tied for first) in the IHSA record book for a single season. In basketball, he had a fine senior season. Averaging right at 20 points per contest to go along with 9 rebounds a night. Named to the Honorable Mention Class A All-State team, he was also on the first team at the Sesser Tournament to go along with the MVP honor he earned in his own conference. He neared the 1,000 point club, but ended with 932 career markers. He has coached five different sports at the school. With some nice success at each stop, as you can see in the bio below. Respected by his players and opponents alike, for his positive and knowledgeable approach to the sport and towards the teams he was leading. Currently, he serves as the Athletic Director at the school. A position he has held since 2016 and has thrived in. Overseeing the scheduling of competitive games and events for the Eagle teams of today. A young Odin Eagle athlete could not find a better example of what it means to be an Odin Eagle. Jeff was always coachable and eager to get better at the sport at hand during his playing days. Forever connected to and proud of his Odin Eagle heritage, it is an honor to welcome Jeff Burton into the Odin Public School District Hall of Fame. Eileen Shanafelt was born and raised in Odin. She served as secretary/bookkeeper from 1967-1996. The daughter of a dedicated teacher known to Odin Schools as ''Miss Jennie.'' She taught at Odin for 42 years. Eileen graduated as the valedictorian of the Class of 1947. Working in the area's oil field industry, she married Kenny Shanafelt in 1951. She had 4 sons and a daughter. When her youngest started all-day attendance in 1967, she was blessed with the opportunity to return to the school as well. She worked as school secretary, and later as the bookkeeper for the district. During that time, she ventured into a new arena. She brought the books into the ''computer age.'' It was not easy, but Eileen proved she was up to the challenge. Her coworkers and the friendships they shared meant a great deal to her, as did each student she watched grow up there. This included her own children. Terry, Jerry, Gary and Sherry. Later, three of her granddaughters would also graduate from OHS. Jennie, Jamie and Amy. After 30 years of dedicated service, Eileen retired. She kept the school deep within her heart to the day she passed in December of 2019. She was honored and proud to have been a part of the village that it takes to educate the students of Odin Public Schools. We are proud and honored to welcome Eileen Shanafelt into the Hall of Fame.
